I've got some more book news this week, as Web Design in Easy Steps is now available on the Kindle. That means you can read it on your Kindle device, or on an iPad or other device using the Amazon Kindle app.
The book provides a comprehensive introduction to website design, teaching you the key principles of what makes a successful website and introducing you to some of the technologies you can use to build one. You learn how to structure a website using HTML, style it using CSS and add some spots of interactivity with Javascript. There are chapters too covering adding a PayPal shopping cart; using audio, video and Flash; adding social networking plug-ins; using Wordpress to update your content; promoting the website; and measuring its success. The print book is a #1 web design bestseller on Amazon.co.uk. One of its differentiators is that it doesn't just teach you how to make a website, it gives you guidance on what makes a useable one, with chapters dedicated to layout and design, effective navigation, effective content, and planning.
Download a free sample PDF of Web Design in Easy Steps and find out more here. You can buy the Kindle edition of the book here. The full-colour print edition of Web Design in Easy Steps is also available here.

I worked with the team at Wiley to create a video trailer for Raspberry Pi For Dummies, the book I co-wrote with Mike Cook. The two-minute video introduces you to the Raspberry Pi and tells you about the book, and what it will teach you. I'm really pleased with how it came out! Thank you to everyone who's helped spread the word by sharing this, and the free PDF sampler I mentioned previously.

I haven't previously announced this on my blog, so you might have missed that I've uploaded a free sample of Raspberry Pi For Dummies. I wanted to make sure it was a proper free gift, so I've worked with the team at Wiley to create a PDF that includes three whole chapters: the Introduction, which tells you what the book is all about; Chapter 1, which introduces the Raspberry Pi itself; and Chapter 10, which gets you started with programming in Scratch. There's another chapter on Scratch in the book, so once you've learned the basics in Chapter 10, you can learn how to make a shoot-em-up game with the full book. We've also included the cover, front matter, tables of contents and index, so you can get an idea of the scope and quality of the complete book. There's been a fantastic response to this free sample so far, including coverage on the official Raspberry Pi site, which we're extremely grateful for. I hope you find it useful!
