4th Edition of Raspberry Pi For Dummies is out now

The fully updated 4th edition of Raspberry Pi For Dummies is out now. It now includes coverage of the Raspberry Pi 400 (which is a Raspberry Pi built into a keyboard) and the Raspberry Pi 4, the latest edition of the single board computer version. We've updated throughout to reflect changes in the software since the previous edition.

As before, the book provides a comprehensive guide to the Raspberry Pi and its software. It introduces Linux, with a guide to using the command line, which is often the quickest way to manage files. The book also covers the desktop environment, and software such as LibreOffice, GIMP (for photo editing), and the LibreELEC media center software. There are chapters to introduce programming in Scratch, Python, and Sonic Pi. And there's a whole part dedicated to electronics projects using the Raspberry Pi, written by my co-author Mike Cook.

New for this edition is a round-up of ten of the best add-ons for your Raspberry Pi, which enable you to build an arcade machine, use it as a tiny piano, add sensors and blinking LEDs, and more. We've updated the lists of inspiring projects and software recommendations, too.

The first edition was mostly written towards the end of 2012 and published in 2013, so the book is nearly ten years old now, and has reached many people in that time. The book has been translated into Chinese, French, German, and Dutch, too. Thank you to everyone who's bought and/or read the book over the years. It's been wonderful to play a part in helping people get started with the Raspberry Pi and programming.
