I haven’t blogged for a while, but that’s because I’ve been
working on a show and two books. Both books are coming out this month, one of
which I’ve written, and the other of which I’ve designed and laid out. More
news on both of those will follow in due course.
While I was in the book writing wilderness, I did update
this website with a couple of articles about writing which you might have
missed. Firstly, I wrote a piece with tips
on self-publishing your autobiography. A lot of people are interested in publishing
a book about their lives, perhaps to pass down to future generations of their
family, but also with one eye on the wider market. I wrote this article to
offer some guidance to them.
Secondly, I published an article on this website which
originally appeared in the February issue of Press Gazette. The publication’s
gone through some upheavals over recent years, but it’s an iconic brand and the
content is as strong as it’s ever been. The article was a report on how
journalists are trained to work in war zones and other hostile environments.
It was based on a training day I had last year courtesy of Blackdown UK, where we
learned vehicle evacuation drills and took part in an exercise with a simulated
hijacking situation. It was a fantastic experience, and I’m delighted with how
the article came out.
As an aside, I licensed this article for payment to another
publication too, which shows that there is value in retaining the rights in your
Permanent link for this post.
